About

Ancestor Group is actively engaged in the development of affordable and workforce housing initiatives across Miami-Dade County. The firm originates, structures, and advances projects in partnership with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, experienced developers, and operating partners, with a focus on initiatives that require coordination across multiple stakeholders and capital sources.

A core area of Ancestor Group's work centers on housing that supports Miami's arts and cultural community. This focus is advanced through Ancestor Arts Foundation, the firm's nonprofit partner, allowing projects to integrate affordable housing, cultural space, and community-serving uses while maintaining long-term affordability and cultural continuity.

In parallel, Ancestor Group develops original media projects centered on the real estate industry and the forces that shape cities. This work explores development, preservation, ownership, and legacy in Miami and reflects a belief that the built environment plays a defining role in the city's history and evolution.

Jose Daniel Freixas

Founder

Ancestor Group was founded by Jose Daniel Freixas, a Miami-based entrepreneur focused on real estate development, public-private collaboration, and long-horizon project creation.

For more than two decades, Freixas operated at the highest levels of film, television, and publishing, developing and advancing large-scale projects alongside major networks, studios, financiers, and globally recognized creative talent. His work has centered on long-form storytelling and intellectual property development, requiring the coordination of complex creative, financial, and strategic interests over multi-year timelines. That experience now informs Ancestor Group's approach to real estate development, grounded in disciplined execution and long-term thinking.

Over the past several years, Freixas has transitioned his focus to real estate, working alongside experienced developers, brokers, and public agencies on projects throughout Miami-Dade County. His work centers on projects that integrate affordability, cultural continuity, and public benefit, particularly in neighborhoods undergoing rapid change. Freixas is also a licensed real estate professional with The Riley Smith Group at Compass, where he advises buyers, sellers, and investors on residential and development-oriented transactions across Miami-Dade County. His brokerage work provides direct, real-time exposure to market dynamics, pricing, entitlement risk, and capital behavior.

Freixas serves on the Amigos Board of the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami and on the board of Think Big, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing research and funding for mental health issues affecting individuals with spinal cord injuries. He is a graduate of the University of Miami and resides in Coral Gables, Florida.
